It's the second year the Freeride Pro event has been held in Thredbo and already has attracted the likes of Olympian Andy Finch and snowboarding pro Russell Holt. The event is sure to be the best yet with $20 000 prize money on offer and a record snow season.

Thredbo's park manager, Charles Beckinsale, works closely with competitors to set up a challenging and unique course on The Bluff with an invitation-only event, the Rip Curl Throwdown Aug. 20. Beckinsale hopes to include jumps, rails, and natural terrain options.

The Rip Curl event is part of Thredbo's Freeride Series, a seven-event competition inclusing slopestyle, rider cross, air and rail events and culminating with The Big Air showdown Sept. 6. The Rip Curl event this year is supported by Jim Beam and Powderhound Magazine.
