Wildland Fire Grazed Red Lodge; It Won't Affect Season

Red Lodge Resort got a big scare this summer with a forest fire licking the edge of the ski hill. Red Lodge Resort got a big scare this summer with a forest fire licking the edge of the ski hill.

The Cascade Fire smoldered into flames on July 26, a short distance from Red Lodge Mountain Resort in Montana. The fire sped to within 1/4 - 1/2 mile of the resort, forcing the evacuation of ski resort personnel, many of whom were helping to fight the fire. It bounced over the boundary into Coal Creek, but crews doused hot spots and kept it at bay.

The fire burned over 10,173 acres. The ski area and local trails remained closed for the summer, but the resort will be in full operation for the winter season.
