New Gondola For Gastein

Look for the new Sernderbahn cable car at Gastein. Look for the new Sernderbahn cable car at Gastein.

Gastein will receive a new cable car facility, an extension of its snowmaking plant and a new ski run for the 2008-09 ski season as part of an ambitious €16.8 million investment.

The new cable car, called the Senderbahn lift, is an eight-person gondola giving access to the Stubnerkogel summit directly from Skizentrum Angertal. At present, the link for skiers between Angertal valley and the Stubnerkogel is via chairlifts and drag lifts only.

Work already has begun on a new black run from the Schlossalm into the Angertal valley. A red run also is planned to run from the Stubnerkogel to the Senderbahn middle station, and it is hoped there will be a new blue ski run from the new Senderbahn’s middle station down to Skizentrum Angertal.

Part of this dramatic facelift for Gastein's ski area includes €1.2 million for extensions to the snowmaking facilities. This will involve more powerful tower cannons on the east side of Stubnerkogel as well as on the west side, achieving a better distribution of skiers.

For optimum upkeep of the ski runs, €1 million will be spent on the purchase of three grooming devices and one motorized sledge (skidoo).
