Early Winter Forecasts A Mixed Bag

Heartland snowsports enthusiasts are going to love this winter at least if they believe the Farmers' Almanac. The Almanac is predicting a colder than normal winter with plenty of snow for the Great Lakes Region, which takes in much of the eastern Midwest. It's predicting the same for New England, but foresees a lighter winter for the West. This is at odds with the government's outlook. The National Weather Service is predicting above normal temperatures in the East and eastern Great Lakes, which could set up like last winter. The Farmers' Almanac, which has been making predictions for the last 191 years, claims an accuracy rate of over 80 percent. They use a secret formula based on sunspots, the position of the planets and tidal action of the moon. I'm pulling for them since they came up with a forecast for more winter and snow in the Heartland. Last winter was pretty anemic. Come on Aquarius, get those planets in line.
