Getting A Lift At Mammoth

One of the best powder/morning corn snow lifts in the Sierra was Chair 9 at Mammoth Mountain. However, the venerable double chair, which was installed in 1969 and served numerous lines of chute and tree skiing off the Dragon's Back, seemingly took forever to get you back to the top. Mammoth ripped out the old lift over the summer, and replaced it with a high-speed Doppelmayr six-pack, which will cut the ride time in half, to about six minutes. The lift has been appropriately dubbed the Cloud Nine Express.
