Lake Louise's Wild Willie

12th February 2007 | By Becky Lomax

Resorts in this article: Lake Louise

The resort's Ultimate Steeps lesson teaches skiers how to master precipitous off piste terrain, choose a line, and identify hazards - things Willie Savard knows intimately. Savard, a Level 4 CSIA-certified Snow School instructor, doesn't need caffeine. He bounces off bumps and slices down steeps as if they were bunny hills. He'll prep you for the next bit of terrain, by laughing, "It's by a cliff…but it's not dangerous." But on the lift, it's not all ski talk. The quintessential Quebecois can vaunt the virtues of poutine - that Canadian delight of French fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds - and swear one Quebec restaurant serves 100 varieties. A lesson with Savard, and you'll get more than your money's worth.
