The ski area that spans across the Idaho-Montana border aims to open its new North Star lift this season. The double chairlift will access 1,000 vertical feet and six new runs on the north side of the mountain. Three of the runs—Big Dipper, Hercules, and Purgatory--are rated expert while Red Dog, Marmot, and Midway are rated blue. Views look to the Bitterroot Range and South Fork Coeur d'Alene River Valley from North Star. Skiers and snowboarders in the North Star Basin will catch Huckleberry Ridge to return to the base area.
The new North Star lift should be completed by early November, just in time for safety inspections prior to opening. With this latest expansion, Lookout Pass has nearly tripled its ski terrain since December 2003.
