The Black Diamond Wasatch Powder Keg kicks off with a Backcountry Film Festival Thursday, March 13, at Brewvies in Salt Lake City sponsored by the Winter Wildlands Alliance. You'll have one day to recover before the individual race - 8.4-mile up-and-down course that spans Alta and Brighton ski resorts Saturday, March 15. The race starts and finishes at 8,553 feet, and goes up to 10,619 feet for both the race and recreational categories. The Racing Division course is 8.34 miles (13.4 km); the Recreational Division course is 5.73 miles (9.1 km). You can register in person at the Black Diamond Store, 2092 East 3900 South, SLC, UT, 801-278-0233, or on line. Registration actually closed March 12, but if there is any space left after that date, they will accept late registrations from March 13-14 for an increased price ($85 for Race or Recreational Divisons). Beacons, shovels, packs, and probes are not required, but you will have to have a helmet and climbing skins. Click to bdel.com/powderkeg/ for more details.
