Meanwhile, as snowmaking whales take shape, a few skiers and snowboarders are hiking up to Big Mountain's summit to cut turns on the north side before opening day. Back in the base area's welding shop, the guys are fashioning S-bends and kink rails to revamp the resort's Fish Bowl Terrain Park. While the new $10 million day lodge won't be finished for opening day, local skiers will line up anyway to hit the slopes.
