Ride the Rails to Thunder

Resorts in this article: Thunder Ridge

New York state has more ski areas than nearly every state in the nation, but you wouldn't know that by going to Broadway. But if you are coming to Manhattan for a few days, it's just a short trip to one of New York state's ski areas. You can take a train from Grand Central Terminal and head 70 miles to Thunder Ridge. For $39 (cheaper for kids and seniors), you can ride the Metro-North line to Paterson, N.Y., where a shuttle bus takes you to Thunder's trails. Oh, and get this: the $39 package includes round-trip rail fare, a lift ticket and, if you don't want to lug your own gear, $5 off rentals. This'll be one trip you'll never fuhgedabout.
