Load testing began on Whitefish Mountain Resort's new lifts to certify them for usage by opening day in early December. The $7.2 million lift expansion includes replacing Chair 1 with a new high-speed quad called the Big Mountain Express, which stretches 2,100 vertical feet to the summit. The Swift Creek Express — another high-speed quad - replaced the aging fixed-grip double Chair 2. Lift crews realigned the new Swift Creek Express to load adjacent to Chair 1, and shortened the Chair 6 connection from the base lodge to unload in the same lift plaza. Beginners taking ski and snowboard lessons at the resort will no longer have to compete with users of the terrain park. The ski and snowboard school shifted to the base lodge area. New beginner lifts installed last winter and re-graded green runs now create an open, comfortable place for learners.
