That should continue as New York mountains look toward another typically high-traffic week: winter break week for most state primary and secondary schools. Lots to come before that. Take said Whiteface: on Friday, one buck of every lift ticket sold goes to the U.S. Ski Team for beers. Hah! Just kidding. They'll use that buck for other things. Windham (34 trails open and counting) is also doing the dollar-for-the-U.S. Ski Team thing on Friday. Hunter Mountain (42-plus trails) on Sunday rolls out another USA Snowboard Association Catskill Mountain Series event - a boardercross and skiercross - with competition starting at 11 a.m. Peek'n Peak has weekend lodging-plus specials for its Wine and Chocolate Weekend. Belleayre Mountain rocks the hill with a Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge event on Saturday. Swain pops it with the fourth annual Throwdown Showdown event on Sunday, only 10 bucks to hot dog it, snag a T-shirt and oogle the swag. Cockaigne does the wayback shuffle Saturday and Sunday, with its Retro Weekend, which includes a Pepsi Alpine Classic race on Sunday. Holiday Valley jam-packs the weekend with USSA freestyle competitions on Saturday and Sunday. And Plattekill Mountain on Saturday hosts a Catskill Mountain Snowboard Series slalom race.
