Telluride's calling it "The Storm That Just Won't Quit." The southern Colorado resort received 67 inches of snow in just one week in early January.
"This is the biggest single week of snow Telluride has seen in years," said CEO Dave Riley. "I see lots of smiles on the mountain and around town."
Steamboat skiers and riders thought the snow report had to be a typo. Snowfall measured 25 inches in one 24-hour period at Patrol Headquarters at the top of the mountain. But locals knew it had to be true after shoveling the driveway four times in one day. The snow has hardly stopped. Two days later, it was 22 inches up top.
Snow has fallen 32 out of 42 days with 18 of those days recording four or more inches, since Steamboat opened Now. 30.
"Steamboat is enjoying some of the best snow in the Rocky Mountains and one of the largest mid-mountain bases of the major Colorado destination resorts," said the resort's Andy Wirth. "The word about Steamboat's snow is spreading as fast as it is piling up in the Yampa Valley and there are no signs of letting up any time soon."
The people at Loveland are asking, "Who needs a powder day when you get a powder week?" Conditions are phenomenal in preparation for Loveland's big group wedding Valentine's Day. Marry Me and Ski for Free, Loveland's Mountaintop Matrimony, is one of Loveland's longest running traditions.
Monarch reported more than 20 feet of snow. "Yesterday was the best day of skiing in my life. The snow was waist deep and untracked all day. It was truly an epic day," Greg Ralph told OTS. April Prout from Gunnison added, "Cat skiing at Monarch is one of those days in your life that you will never forget. To be able to ski 14-16 runs of untouched snow is such an unbelievable experience. And having the snow cat at your disposal, just puts it over the top. There is nothing to compare it to,"
added April Prout from Gunnison.
Yes, conditions in Colorado are truly epic. It was a slow start to the season, but all the recent January snow has more than made up for it. Plan your mountain vacation soon. The snow is waiting for you.
