It's not yet quite 150 years since St Moritz claim's to have been the first holiday resort in the world to take winter sports guests (that was 1864). However it is 150 years since the resort's Kulm hotel, which was to become the pioneer of winter tourism, opened, and to mark this anniversary the resort is to open the Swiss Olympic House. The new exhibition will be housed in the old Ice Pavilion donated by the Kulm and the resort as a whole will contribute 3.5 million Swiss Francs to the project. If all goes to schedule it will open in time for the 35th Bobsleigh World Championships in February. Modern winter sports began in St Moritz in 1885 and the resort hosted the Winter Olympics of 1928 and 1948, it remains the only Swiss host to date. The Swiss Olympic House will hold the Olympic stone, official flags and even the Olympic flame.
