Feting Winter at Bryce
Feb 27, 2007 By Matt Sandy
In its second year, the festival attracts a large crowd for some on-mountain shenanigans including the ever popular pond-skimming event, scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
If attempting to forge frigid waters on skis or snowboard is not your thing, the Virginia mountain has plenty of other events for the more warm-blooded.
Things kick off at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast in the Ski Cafeteria and the gastronomical indulgences continue with outdoor grills cooking up food all day.
While the von Trapps have yet to R.S.V.P., Baltimore's most versatile cover band, the Charles Parker Band, will bring the mountain alive with the sound of music followed by DJ Doug on the ones and twos.
Check out the Nastar race at noon or the rail jam at 1 p.m. and enter for a chance to win skis, snowboards and other gear in one of the multiple raffles occurring throughout the day.
While the forecast is predicting rain on Thursday and Friday, weather looks to turn warm and sunny on Saturday. Even if conditions are not favorable, Bryce is not worried about WinterFest being a washout.
"Last year it was pouring rain and people still had a great time," recalled director of member services Nan Ducklow.
"It's supposed to be warm and we have a great base right now. It's going to be terrific."
