Visitors to OnTheSnow.com have Indianhead Mountain, Mich., as their "Favorite Family-Friendly Resort" in the Midwest. The data period for voting was January 2011 when a Nielsen audit showed 3.4 million unique browsers logged in to the world's most visited Web platform. OnTheSnow.com is published by Mountain News Corp.
The ski resort with the top average score (on a scale of 1 to 5) in each category, and a minimum number of entries, receives the award. Visitors then ranked them in five categories: Overall Favorite, Best Nightlife, Most Family-Friendly, Best Downhill Terrain, and Best Terrain Park.
"User-generated content is a very powerful and effective way Web visitors have to communicate with each other," said Mountain News Global Managing Director Chad Dyer. "Skiers and snowboarders are relying on the word of their peers when they make resort choices."
Here is a sample of what OTS visitors wrote about Indianhead: "Lifties were awesome with my little ones. Ski school was great and we couldn't be happier. Our family will be back. Hill is setup great for kids. We let them ride the magic carpet and poma all day."
"Family friendly helpful staff on and off the hill, easily accessible, economical vacation. Had a fun time with the family and enjoyed the hills."
Indianhead Mountain Resort in Michigan's western Upper Peninsula offers 220 acres of skiable terrain served by nine lifts and tows. One trail, Voyagers' Highway, is over 40 acres in area, larger than many Midwest ski areas.
