Visitors to OnTheSnow.com have chosen Appalachian Ski Mountain in No. Carolina as their "Favorite Family-Friendly Resort" in the Mid Atlantic Region. The data period for voting was January 2011 when a Nielsen audit showed 3.4 million unique browsers logged in to the world's most visited Web platform. OnTheSnow.com is published by Mountain News Corp.

The ski resort with the top average score (on a scale of 1 to 5) in each category, and a minimum number of entries, receives the award. Visitors then ranked them in five categories: Overall Favorite, Best Nightlife, Most Family-Friendly, Best Downhill Terrain, and Best Terrain Park.

"User-generated content is a very powerful and effective way Web visitors have to communicate with each other," said Mountain News Global Managing Director Chad Dyer. "Skiers and snowboarders are relying on the word of their peers when they make resort choices."

Here are just a few samples of what OTS visitors wrote about Appalachian: "Having a nursery on site made it possible for us to enjoy it. The kids program is good. My 6-year- old son saw snow for the first time and he was skiing by the end of the day. I would go back again." Another wrote: "Kids have fun and adults have some free time to hone their skills. This was the most family-friendly and easiest resort to visit by far. The whole staff was so friendly and helpful especially the ski shop staff."

Here's more: "The smaller hill is great to get started on and the night skiing was wide open - no lines. Thanks Appalachian for a great family outing and we will be back as much as possible."

Appalachian Ski Mountain offers 12 runs (slopes) including three terrain parks. The extremely family-friendly base lodge now covers 46,000 square feet, is smoke free, and has complimentary WI-FI in the restaurant.
