Big snows in the Canadian Rockies keep Alberta's mountain resorts open long after ski areas south of the border close. Nakiska and Castle plan their last day celebrations for Apr. 6 and Norquay for Apr. 13. But Marmot Basin and Lake Louise plan to stay open throughout April, shutting down their lifts at the end of the ski day Apr. 27. Lake Louise celebrates the last weekend with their epic Hot Dog Day, which hosts a hot dog eating contest and awards prizes for best one-piece suit, best sunglasses, and biggest hair. Sunshine Village stays open longer than the other resorts — well into May. They'll close with the 80th annual Sunshine Slush Cup May 19 when skiers splat into an icy pond.
