Vail Resorts' finest are featured on a special photography layout. It's called the Women of Vail, and it is part of and a special commissioned assignment. It features women who are currently pushing the boundaries of skiing.

Heather Erson is the photographer. The project started in 2008 with a similar series called "Revealed: The Athletes of Jackson Hole."

"I had an internship with Annie Liebowitz. After that experience, I was looking for inspiration and a project of my own. I realized I had so many athlete friends who live here in Jackson Hole. I asked them if I could photograph them and the series began." published eight of the female skier portraits for the series and the hits started climbing. "Skiing then commissioned me to travel around the U.S. and Canada last September to photograph the women of Snowbird, Squaw, Whistler, and Vail." Everything is displayed through a Web gallery, exclusive to Skiingmag for one year.

"These are the ladies coming out of Vail, Breckenridge, Keystone, and Beaver Creek, including some of the fiercest competitors in park and pipe, and the girl who might be the future of the U.S. moguls team."

They're skiers and proud of it, competing in slopestyle, moguls, big air, and anything freeride. Those featured are Keri Herman, Jen Hudak, Heidi Kloser, Meg Olenick, Emilia Wint, Rebecca Selig, Athena Brownson, and Jesse Ambrogi-Yanson. Have you heard of any of them? You will.

Erson hopes the photos will boost their careers. "I hope it would make them more recognizable and provide inspiration for other women."
