Stratton Mountain Resort is hosting the U.S. Freestyle Championships March 24-27 with competitions in aerials, moguls, and halfpipe.
The Freestyle Championships will bring the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team and other top skiers from across the country to Stratton to compete in moguls, aerials, halfpipe, and dual moguls.
The aerial competition will be held at the Sun Bowl Thursday, March 24. Qualifiers begin at 9:20 a.m., and finals start at 11 a.m.
Mogul competition will be on World Cup Friday, March 25. Qualfiers begin at 9:15 a.m., and finals start at 1:45 p.m.
Halfpipe competition will be at the Sun Bowl Saturday, March 26, with qualifiers at 9:15 a.m. and finals at 12:30 p.m.
Dual mogul competition will be on World Cup Sunday, March 27. Qualifiers start at 10:45 a.m., and finals begin at 1:30 p.m.
It is the second time Stratton has hosted this premier event for freestyle skiers.
As with the U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships that occured earlier in March, the U.S. Freestyle Championships involve concerts, a sponsor village with free swag, a chance to mingle with competitors, and six days of fun.
The event is set up to be spectator friendly, with viewing areas, announcers, and a large screen at the base.
Conditions should be ideal this year. The winter of 2010-11 has seen bountiful natural snowfall across the Northeast and most other parts of the country, and ideal snowmaking weather as well. Moreover, the annual evolution of conditions into spring skiing and riding will have begun, driven by longer and warmer days.
