Wachusett Mountain Ski Area has the race for you, if you love muddy challenges.

The ski resort is tapping into the adventure racing craze Saturday, April 9, with a four-leg race that involves trail running, mountain biking, climbing, and skiing or snowboarding down a slalom course.

The Up, Down & Around Challenge begins with a 2-mile run on roads and trails around the Base Area. Next comes an 8-mile bike ride on paved and gravel roads around the mountain. Racers then make their own way to the summit in any manner they please: hiking, snowshoeing, skinning. The last leg is a slalom course back to the Base Area.

Entry fee is $50 per person, or $100 per team for teams that pre-register. Proceeds will benefit the Wachusett Mountain Race Team, the parent-run organization which oversees the junior alpine ski racing program at the ski area.

The event is open to individuals, who can do all four legs, or teams, which can split the legs among team members.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Base Area. Individual racers take off at 11 a.m., teams and families at 11:15. The party begins at 2 p.m. Awards will be given for men and women, teams, and families, in various age categories.
