Les Deux Alpes is inviting mountain bikers to the resort after the snow has melted, with a range of activities and events programmed throughout the summer.
The resort's mountain bike terrain will be open from June 18 to Aug. 28 and is open to all levels. It offers more than 100 kilometres of trails stretching from the glacier at 3200 metres to the villages of Mont de Lans (1300m) and Venosc (900m). Like in ski, there are groomed paths and free ride areas, as well as a bike park.
From June 30 to July 3, Les Deux Alpes welcomes the Mondial du VTT, an outdoor fair with more than 12,000 square meters of mountain bike stands for visitors to browse. It is also the opportunity to try new bike models, get expert advice, and meet some of the more famous athletes in mountain biking today.
The Mountain of Hell derby takes place July 15-17. This downhill race takes off from the glacier and speeds down 2500 metres of vertical drop where bikers confront snow, rocks, ice, and uneven terrain on their way to the finish line.
Pantani's Week, Aug. 14-21, is an event celebrating cycling in the Oisans mountains. It includes discovery rides of the area's mountain passes and finishes with a memorial race in honour of Italian cyclist Marco Pantani. Racers compete in a time trial and distance race of either 64 or 165 kilometres.
