Copper Mountain celebrates springtime with some of the top freeride athletes in the country, tearing up the slopes. The 2011 USASA Snowboard and Freeski National Championships feature the best male and female athletes competing in slopestyle, superpipe, boardercross and skicross, slalom, and giant slalom in their quest to be national champions. The action is April 2-12.

The Copper Mountain Ski Patrol hosts an Avalanche Dog demonstration Saturday, March 26. Show up at 12:30 at the top of the American Flyer or Super Bee lift for the dog demo. You'll see how dogs use their heightened sense of smell to find a "buried" avalanche victim. Training for these dogs can take up to three years. This training is actually just playing for the dogs as they are hunting and their prey is the human buried in the snow.

Copper Mountain is offering some savings as far as lodging. Check on the Unit Upgrade from Bronze to Silver, or Silver to Gold hotels, which can save up to 43 percent. It's good through the end of the month, and then again April 9-24. The offer is only valid for hotels, studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units. The deal is subject to availability.
