Use Common Sense On Bogus Basin Road

The good news for riders at Bogus Basin Jan. 21: Great fresh snow. The bad news: unless you were there before noon, you were out of luck as the road was closed due to another accident. The head-on crash occurred just before 1 p.m. with injuries to four people and a dog. Officials are urging people to take extra caution and to use common sense, with such icy conditions. "Bogus Basin Road is unique in the area because it is often cold and icy and it can be sandy on the road," Boise Fire Department's Bruce Rankin said. "Stay in your lane, don't pass. Use common sense rules of the road we seem to have forgotten in a lot of cases."

Use Common Sence is Ok, but I'd say there will be more accidents due to the high amount of young drivers (common sence - not yet developed in some) on this very winding road. Additionally, accidents will continue because the road is sometimes plowed in such a way that the center line of the road is not really the center of the road . I have driven professionally and in severe winter conditions for many years and can tell you that way too many drivers are not respecting the icy conditions by driving too fast and tailgating. simply put, too many drivers lack common sence!. There must be more caution demanded in the newsletters, ski reports and signage.
