Grindelwald is hosting its 12th Splash The Pool Race April 2.
Participants in fancy dress take their skis, snowboards or "fun mobile" (a homemade vehicle) and slide down a snow-covered ramp across an artifically constructed 25-metre-long pool. The ramp is shortened each time, making the crossing harder.
Certain regulations apply for building your own fun mobile: at least two people must have seats in the fun mobile; fun mobiles must be transported to Schreckfeld by First Aerial Cableway the day before the event (free transportation); the construction must be solid enough for transportation.
Entry fees are CHF50 including ski pass on Internet; CHF20 without ski pass; free for teams with a fun mobile (including free ski pass). Teams in the fun mobile category from outside the area will be provided with free accommodation at the Downtown Lodge in Grindelwald.
Prizes are available for the best fun mobile: CHF1000 first prize; CHF600 second prize; and CHF400 third prize. The fun mobiles will be judged according to construction effort and costumes - 60 percent; sliding ability - 20 percent; and buoyancy - 20 percent.
The event is open to all adults or from the age of 16 with the signed consent of parents. Insurance is the responsibility of the participant.
