A week after the French Snowboard Championships at Les Gets, the resort is hosting the French Ski Cross Championships March 22-23.
The event gives skiers the chance to battle it out on the boardercross. Individual skiers will compete in the qualification phases and qualified skiers will go on to four-competitor rounds. Only the first two ranked skiers of each group will move on to the next round until there are only four skiers left for the final round.
Practice sessions will take place at the boardercross from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. March 22, then the competitions take place March 23 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. After the games, prizes will be awarded to the winners.
The competition is set on the Deborah Anthonioz boardercross, named for Les Gets' own snowboarder who has been riding since she was 14. Most recently, she took the bronze medal in the Aspen X Games and came in third place at the world cup in Stoneham, Canada in February.
The boardercross itself was designed by the SnowConcept company and David Ny, who shaped for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. The piste measures 523 metres long with a 124 metre vertical drop. It also includes six banks, 17 whoops, two step downs, three tables, a transfer jump, and a step down to step up.
