Northern British Columbia sprouts with small ski hills, but Hudson Bay Mountain Resort in Smithers is growing into a destination mountain. New owners have infused the resort with new life, and daily operations in March are attracting spring break vacationers.
Hudson Bay Mountain operates Wednesdays through Sundays on its normal schedule for most of winter. But spring break vacationers will find the resort running its lifts daily March 2-27. The ski season at Hudson Bay winds up April 10 with its Schnai Dai finale.
Partnerships with two lodging properties in Smithers give spring break vacationers places to stay and lift tickets. The lodges sit less than a 20-minute drive to the resort, but skiers can hop buses that run to the resort on weekends and holidays-especially to be able to ski the trail back to town.
The Aspen Inn and Suites and the Hudson Bay Lodge in downtown Smithers offer ski and stay packages. Rates run comparable between the two properties. A two-night package with two days of lift tickets costs $149 per person based on double occupancy. A $10 meal voucher is included, too, for each night's stay.
The Aspen Inn and Suites offers rooms, executive suites, family rooms, and kitchenettes. The Aspen Riverhouse Restaurant and Lounge is on site, and the hotel provides wireless Internet.
Hudson Bay Lodge provides hotel rooms, including king suites. A liquor store, Zoers Modern Grill, and the Fireside Pub are available.
