Granite Peak's annual Avalanche Days, announcing the ending of the season, begins Monday, March 21, and continues through Sunday, April 3, the last day of skiing and riding for this season.

Daily lift tickets purchased online through the season ending event will be $39 for adults.  An adult/child daily combo will be $47 and child and senior tickets $29. Two-day lift tickets purchased online will be respectively $68, $94 and $52.

Typical cost of a weekend lift and lodging package for a family of four is around $489, which can vary with choice of lodging packages. Granite Peak does not have lodging, but works with a variety of area motels and hotels that package with the ski area.

The annual two-week spring festival normally offers some of the best skiing and riding of the season with longer daylight hours and warmer temperatures. There will be a daily petting zoo for the kids, fun and games each day, live music and entertainment, free group ski and snowboard lessons Monday through Friday each week, free child ski and snowboard rental with family combo ticket, and dining and lodging specials at area restaurants and motels and hotels.

Wausau, which spreads out around the base of Rib Mountain, is one of the Heartland's great ski towns.  It offers a wealth of things to do beyond skiing and riding with great museums, cultural centers and a great pedestrian downtown; plus a city-owned tubing hill that rivals any in the Midwest.
