The thought of driving home to the Front Range from the mountains, in heavy I-70 traffic, is daunting to some, especially on a busy Saturday afternoon. It's the job of a nonprofit group called the I-70 Coalition to ease those traffic woes, and the I-70 congestion. The latest venture is SkiBusColorado which provides round-trip transportation on a motorcoach, along with lift ticket packages.
The deals are good every Saturday. Three pick-up locations offer free parking and non-stop service directly to Breckenridge and Keystone Ski Resorts. Pick-up locations are the Colorado Ski and Golf stores in Aurora and Littleton, and the Breeze Ski Rentals in Lakewood.
Load up at 7:30 in the morning and you'll return from the slopes at 4:30 p.m.
The director of the program, Bob Aube, has been offering this service in California to ski resorts as well as to professional and college sports events. "The gridlock scenarios up Interstate 70 are discouraging skiers and snowboarders. Our solution not only offers value, but each motorcoach can eliminate 30-50 cars from the highway," claims Aube.
Margaret Bowes, who manages the I-70 Coalition, added, "While working toward a long term solution, the I-70 Coalition is also focused on short term strategies that will more immediately ease I-70 congestion. The use of buses to transport skiers to resorts along the I-70 corridor is a step in the right direction."
Packages can be purchased online, on the SkiBusColorado website.
