Swiss International Air Lines has been named 2010 Airline of the Year in the short-haul category by more than 1400 readers of Switzerland's ReiseBlick travel magazine.
The airline beat more than 51 competitors to earn the title. SWISSChief Commerical Officer, Holger Hatty said: "We are particularly delighted to win this award because it has been bestowed directly by our customers."
The survey criteria include quality and customer satisfaction at check-in and on board, and the travellers' sense of safety and security before and during the flight. It also extends to the frienliness of the personnel, legroom, punctuality, general value-for-money, and inflight entertainment.
As of last year, SWISS operates six non-stop flights a day between London Heathrow and Geneva. Geneva is the ideal gateway to ski resorts in Swiss, French, and Italian Alps. Switzerland's ski resorts of Verbier, Gstaad, Leysin, and Crans Montana among many others are within easy reach from Geneva. Chamonix, Megeve, Courchevel, and Val d'Isere in the French Alps, and Courmayeur in the Italian Alps are also with easy reach and served by train, bus, or coach.
SWISS is the only direct carrier from the UK to Switzerland to transport the first set of skis/snowboards and boots free of charge. Customers also have the option of flying out of London Heathrow and flying back to London City in one ticket or vice versa.
