The Helly Hansen Big Mountain Battle is making its rounds this winter with several North American stops remaining before the final Battle in the Bowls. Competitions are scheduled for Keystone Resort, Squaw Valley USA, Revelstoke Mountain Resort, Stevens Pass Ski Area, Smugglers' Notch, and Aspen Mountain.

The three-hour race pits teams of two against each other to poke into nooks and crannies around the mountain. Checkpoints require hitting certain lifts, skiing specific runs, and hiking up hills. But the order of reaching checkpoints is up to each team. Flaik GPS units track the teams in real time.

Teams can be comprised of any ages and levels. Novice and advanced courses are available with the top three teams in each competition completing all checkpoints with the best time winning prizes. The team winning the advanced course will be awarded $2,000 worth of Helly Hansen gear.

Teams registering for the Big Mountain Battle at any of the competition venues receive two pieces of Helly Hansen Base Layer and a subscription to Powder Magazine. A team entry costs $85. Many of the resorts hosting the competition offer discounted lift tickets for participants on the day of the event.

The remaining Helly Hansen Big Mountain Battles spread across Colorado, California, British Columbia, Washington, and Vermont. Keystone and Squaw Valley hold their battles Feb. 26. The competition moves to Revelstoke March 5 followed by Stevens Pass March 19. It jumps across the U.S. to Smugglers Notch March 19 before finishing up with the final Battle in the Bowls at Aspen March 27.

Registration is available on the Helly Hansen Big Mountain Battle website.
