Mammoth Mountain Ski Area introduced its first College Games last year, which proved to be a hit. The event presented by Fuel TV returns March 18-20 to McCoy Station where bikinis and board shorts are the attire for the slopes.

The event features 20 teams of college students vying for bragging rights and season passes for next year. The winning team of five competitors will receive an unrestricted season pass for each member of the team and have their school name engraved on the Mammoth Fuel TV trophy.

Each team must be comprised of members from the same school and have at least two girls per team. Lift tickets or season passes are required, but Mammoth permits use of the restricted college pass March 19, which is usually a blackout date.

The competition pits the college teams against each other for five events. Events include a Nordic-style ski race on snow blades, a park jam session, a musical chairs elimination competition, and a Slip 'n Slide race that requires not spilling a beverage. The fifth event is secret.

The winning team gets the season passes, but other contests are part of the fun, too. The winner of the most creative bikini also gets an unrestricted season pass for next year, and the person who invents the most creative way of carrying identification or a season pass while in a swimsuit will receive a special prize.

The competition day ends with a concert featuring Hyper Crush, 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Canyon Lodge. Tickets cost $20 at the door, but those purchasing tickets in advance can save $5-10.

Registration and a welcome party take place 10 p.m to -midnight, March 18, in the Whitebark Lounge at the Westin. The games start at 11 a.m. March 19 at McCoy Station with awards given out after the events.

College season passes are still available for $299 at Mammoth. A ski and stay special is available at Mammoth Mountain Inn, starting at $120 per person based on quad occupancy.
