Andermatt Tourism has annouced that the extensive project "Andermatt Swiss Alps", which will see the resort expand as a year-round destination, is on schedule after successfully completing the first stage of the construction process.
The project inolves modernising and linking the neighbouring ski areas of Andermatt and Sedrun to form a single ski arena stretching 130 kilometres; the construction of six new four- and five-star hotels, 490 apartments, and 25 villas; a state-of-the-art sport and leisure centre; and an 18-hole golf course.
By mid-December last year, building work had started on the Chedi Andermatt hotel, the podium building platform, and the golf course. Work was then halted due to the wintry conditions and will recommence in spring this year.
The sports centre will be at the centre of the village offering a wide range of spa programmes, swimming, and fitness training.
The ecologically designed 18-hole golf course and six-hole practise facility will stretch 1.3 million square metres.
All new hotels, apartments, and villas are being built to MINERGIE standards, which is a recognised Swiss label for the ecological construction of new buildings. Electricity and heat will be obtained exclusively from renewable resources to ensure a carbon dioxide-neutral energy supply.
Different aspects of the project are scheduled to be completed at different times from summer 2013 to winter 2014.
