Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley, N.C., has come up with a way to say "thanks" to fire and rescue personnel, with Fire & Rescue Appreciation Days.

The event is scheduled Thursday, Feb. 24 and Friday, Feb. 25.

Cataloochee is offering a special package that includes a 1.5-hour lesson, a lift ticket for either day, for daytime, twilight or night skiing, and rental equipment. The package costs $25, which is a savings of $56 over Cataloochee's regular rates.

This package price is good for day skiing 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., twilight skiing 1 to 10 p.m., or night skiing 6 to 10 p.m.

The lift ticket price is $15 per person, if rental and lessons are not required.

This offer is valid for fire and rescue personnel with valid ID and their families. All family members must be present at time of purchase.

Many properties in the Maggie Valley area have a special reduced rate for overnight accommodations.

Cataloochee offers 14 slopes, a quad chair, a triple, a double and two conveyors, a vertical drop of 740 feet, 25 acres of skiable terrain with 100 percent snowmaking coverage, and 10 slopes lighted for night skiing.
