Okemo Mountain Resort is sprinkling its slopes with hearts this Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, and inviting guests to find them.

They're not actually that hard to find, says Okemo's Bonnie MacPherson.

"We have a Find the Heart Scavenger Hunt where we put out big cardboard laminated hearts around the trails. Guests who find one bring it to Guest Services and win a goodie prize bag full of stuff.

"We also have a Find a Liftie With a Heart deal -- because you know they're hard to find, and if you do you get a prize as well," MacPherson said.

"We also are putting on wonderful romantic candlelit dinners at Coleman Brook Tavern," she said.

"We've seen a lot of romance on the mountain this year," she said. "We had two marriage proposals where people wrote the proposal in the snow and rode over it on a chairlift. We also had a couple of on-the-mountain weddings this year."

Other than that, what a year for New England skiing, she said.

"Oh my god, the storms and the timing have been amazing, always midweek and by the weekend people are shoveled out and ready to hit the slopes, so the weekends have been great. I went out for first tracks Saturday, before anybody got there, and by 10:30 a.m. had half a dozen runs. I started to see other people on the slopes so I said, ‘OK, I'm going back to work.' But I had first tracks on every trail on the South Face. The bonus was that when it was time to leave, I went down Rimrock, and had first tracks on beautiful corduroy there as well since nobody else had left the South Face yet.

"The sun was out and it was like diamonds on corduroy, all sparkly and pretty," she said.
