According to the travel magazine, GeoSaison, two Zermatt hotels are among the top 100 in Europe: Hotel Vervo and the Monte Rosa Hut.
Zermatt's Hotel Cervo appears under the category "Ten Newest" and GeoSaison writes: "A real hunting lodge or a contemporary chalet . . . The fresh Alpine look is just as suited to local mountain farmers as to sophisticated scene setters."
Hotel Cervo's restaurant serves hearty Valais specialities, cured meats, game, and grilled suckling pig. The wellness centre features an outdoor whirlpool, sauna, steam room, massage facilities, and a resting terrace.
Guestrooms are decorated in a modern alpine style and are priced from CHF390 (corner room) to CHF1260 (master suite) per night in peak season.
In the category "Incomparable Hotels," the Monte Rosa Hut actually takes first place. It is built above the Gorner Glacier in the shadow of the Matterhorn - Its metallic, crystal-shaped building boasting innovative energy concepts at high altitudes.
This "mountain hut of the future" is spread across five floors, has 18 rooms for guests with 120 beds, four toilet systems, two washrooms, and four showers. The hut began offering a full guest service last March.
