[R269, Timber Ridge] is hosting Winterfest, one of its more popular events, Feb. 26-27, which is especially popular with southeastern Michigan families.
There are events for everyone, according to marketing director Joan Bailey.
"Winterfest is a weekend of fun for the entire family," she enthused. "There's the Dummies Run, the Penguins Slide, Cardboard Sled race, snow and ice sculpting and live music. On the outside deck we have a barbeque with beer tasting provided by local brewers. People dress up in costumes, and there are contests and prizes being awarded throughout the weekend."
Timber Ridge, between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, is sandwiched between two valleys, and just a scant 25 miles from Lake Michigan. It receives a fair amount of lake effect snow keeping it very winter-like. The area offers 15 runs, eight lifts, two terrain parks, and tubing.
The terrain parks, which were featured in Warren Miller's film Dynasty last season, are designed and maintained by Luke Schrab. He and his brother Adam have been featured in four Miller films.
Adult regular season lift tickets run between $20 and $37. Junior (8-11) lift tickets are $15 to $24.
Check out Snowshoe Bar in the area's spacious day-lodge. A wall of picture windows overlooks Oak, their race hill. There are more seats in the bar - 260 - than vertical feet on the hill, which is 240 feet. It's a wonderful, local après ski scene, and they have fun.
