Aussois is organising La Nocturne Nordique, a festive evening based on Nordic skiing, March 2.
Aussois Tourism Office and the local cross country club, Monolithe de Ski de Fond, have been hosting this event since 2007. A representative of Aussois told OnTheSnow: "La Nocturne Nordique offers a festive atmosphere on the theme of cross-country skiing, but it's more of a fun event than a competition. People like the event because it's convivial. It adds a little something for holidaymakers, who can come out and have fun with the whole family, or just watch the others run around. And if you come alone, we can always find a partner for you."
During the evening, participants have the choice between five different events such as a couples' relay, parent-child relay, and a kiddie relay.
Events take place on a 300-metre track at the base resort, in front of the tourism office. Teams of two people take turns running a relay race. The older the group of competitors, the longer the race lasts. An adult relay race, for example, lasts 20 minutes.
Some skiers come dressed up, other in tandem skis. The important thing is to have fun.
Registration opens at 5:30 p.m. and is free. Various animations also add to the atmosphere. Past activities have included traditional Savoyard concerts and dog-sledding. A torch-lit descent by the ski instructors and a fireworks display always closes the evening.
