The Grande Traversée du Vercors, a legendary race across the Alpine plateau, will be celebrating its 40th anniversary March 5-6. Registration is now open for all cross-country skiers who would like to take part in the event.
The GTV includes several circuits so that participants of varying levels can enjoy skiing through preserved forests and over varied trails.
Saturday, March 5, skiers can conquer the 30-kilometre track from Font d'Urle to Col de Rousset. On Sunday, there will be the classic 50-kilometre race, as well as a 35-kilometre and 20-kilometre option. Skiers under 16 have their own special trail, the Vercorette, with several tracks ranging from three to ten kilometres. The Vercorette also includes biathlon shooting in a specially-designed area for children.
The events take place between Col de Rousset in the southern Vercors and Bois Barbu, near Villard-Corrençon. The trails for the GTV cross the plateau and are only groomed once a year, for this annual event.
Registration fees run between €10 and €16, plus €10 for the shuttle bus either before or after the race if necessary. Participants can register in advance through the GTV's Web site or directly on-site. In this case, an additional €5 will be added to the price.
