Vallnord is to host the 14th edition of the El Dorado Freeride competition Feb. 25-27.

Freeriders, both skiers and snowboarders, will flock to Arcalis in the Vallnord ski area to battle it out on the slopes. Last year the event became a recognised part of the Freeride World Tour as a Freeride World Qualifier event (FWQ).

El Dorado is the main freeride competition in Southern Europe and is the first in the Pyrenees.

Skiers and snowboarders must determine their descent down the mountain - tracking difficult slopes with possible inclines of 55 degrees. The 40 riders competing in the event will have high mountain experience and excellent technique.

Vallnord is hosting many other international on-slope contests this February:

The Font Blanca ski mountaineering race will be held Feb. 13. It is a very tough and technical race where contestants will cover almost two kilometres of terrain.

The fourth International Speed Riding Contest Feb. 14-18 is a combination of skiing and paragliding. Vallnord has its own speed riding school, the first in the peninsula.

The FIS Masters World Criterium Feb. 22-25 in Ordino-Arcalis is one of the most important events on the Alpine skiing calendar.
