This conviction led the Arizona Snowbowl ski and ride school to set up its Boomer Thursday program last season, and the discount deal is gaining momentum this year, said Dave Smith, director of sales and marketing at the northern Arizona ski area.
Anyone older than 50 can recapture that youthful feeling every Thursday, with lift ticket prices the same as a regular junior's ticket: $26. Baby boomers also get a free clinic at 1 p.m. if they register at the Ski and Ride School desk, on the phone at 928-779-1951 ext. 189, or online (see below).
"We want to keep them in the sport," said Smith. "The program is continuing education for those who have experience. We want to get more of them back out on our hill."
Boomer Thursdays fit right in with Snowbowl's other weekday promotions, Women's Wednesdays, with discount lesson-lift packages for all abilities of female skiers and riders, and Freestyle Fridays, a chance to hone a trick or get some terrain-park instruction.
Snowbowl's slopes and trails have held onto their snow, said Smith. January has been dry but cold in the San Francisco Peaks, so the snowpack hasn't done much melting, even on south-facing slopes, Smith said.
