Gourette, part of the N'PY network of French Pyrenees resorts, has made a few improvements this season.
For skiers, a new 10-person gondola lift has been built linking the Ley car park to the heart of the station. This new lift is capable of transporting up to 2500 passengers per hour. It takes visitors from their cars to Gourette's welcome area in just two minutes and replaces the previous shuttle service, which transported 600 clients per hour. The resort invested almost €8 million in the installation in order to give clients a better ski experience.
The welcome area, known as the Bézou sector, has also undergone some changes. This area offers seven hectares of beginner zones with gentle slopes, magic carpet lifts, and a chairlift so that beginner skiers can take their time getting comfortable with their gear.
The service centre itself has been expanded to include a restaurant for 400 diners, Le Cairn, with indoor and outdoor dining. The centre also houses the ski school offices, where clients can reserve their ski lessons with a certified ESF instructor.
The new welcome centre is constructed from wood and stone, with an organic roof so as to blend in with the natural surroundings. Gourette invested nearly €3 million in the project.
