Mountain High is prepping for its annual big air show Feb. 5. The Cholula Triple Air Show upped the purse this year to $30,000.
The event features a two-run qualifying format on a series of three giant 50- to 75-foot jumps. The top competitors advance to the finals, which boil down to a single run to impress the judges. The competition splits into open divisions for amen's snowboard, women's snowboard, and skiers.
The prize purse jumped up to the highest level yet for the event. A $30,000 purse will get doled out to winners with the men's top snowboarder walking away with $10,000. "The purse is the biggest yet because the skier division has always been a secondary spot, but now it's a primary division," spokesperson John McColly told OnTheSnow. The first place skier wins $1,500, and overall best trick gets $1,000.
"This is our biggest spectator event of the season," said McColly. "This is one of the best chances where people of SoCal can see the big name pros." In the past, the event has drawn Shaun White, Chas Guldemond, Gabe Taylor, Kevin Pearce, and Keegan Valaika.
The event takes place on Gold Rush run at the East Resort. Spectators need to be on skis or snowboards and wearing lift tickets or season passes to access the side of the course.
The open competition costs $150 to enter, which includes two days of lift tickets and registration. Feb. 4 is a practice day, while the competition takes place 10:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 5.
