Free the heel and free the spirit at the 6th Annual TeleFest at Powderhorn. Take part in professional clinics, equipment demos, an uphill/downhill race, a costume contest, and a great après party to finish off a day of freeheelin' fun.
Head to Powderhorn Saturday, Jan. 22 to jump into the action. Registration opens at 8 a.m. If you show up on telemark skis lift tickets are discounted to $35. Professional clinicians will be on hand from all over the state leading lessons for beginners through experts.
"I'm most excited about the clinics," says Leah Allard, a former Powderhorn employee. "They're absolutely amazing."
Jump in the uphill/downhill race kicking off at 8:30 a.m. Contestants add their equipment to a pile, then race off a starting line to dig out their skis, poles and skins, gear up, and ascend the Wonderbump run to the top of Powderhorn. The first racer who skis back down and across the finish line wins a GoPro helmet camera.
Anything goes for the costume contest barring PG attire. The day concludes with an après party featuring free keg beer from a local brewery. Check Powderhorn's website for more information and prices for clinics and the party.
"This day is so fun for all of us to come together," Allard says. "Now that the trend of telemarking is growing in popularity, so is the demographic. Seeing kids in the terrain park, groups on the slopes, and others in the backcountry all on teles is really a special sight."
