Echo Mountain's event series rolls on with Under Armor's 3rd Rail Jam stopping in Colorado Jan. 29. The 3rd Rail Jam's unique format pairs rail contestants with art and music for one of the most fresh and progressive events of its kind.
Up to 150 amateur skiers and riders compete in a winner-takes-all competition conducted in true jam format. The competition is open to four divisions: 15 and under, all girls, best of breed, and skiers. Each division competes for cold, hard cash and additional prizes.
"We've had a great turnout for the first two events in Killington, Vt., and Mountain Creek, N.J.," 3rd Rail Jam's Justin Swett said. "It sounds like Echo is the perfect venue for our tour, so we're ready to hit Colorado."
Graffiti artists stage live painting demos on plywood billboards, while a freestyle competition battles eight local MCs against each another in ‘The Battle Below Zero,' Swett explained to OnTheSnow. The winner of the hip-hop battle cruises on to Denver to become the opening act at the after party at Summit Music Hall downtown.
The event's energy continues at the crowd-pumping after party. DJs, break dance crews, and live hip-hop performances will accompany the opening MC freestyle winner. Colorado's feature headliner is none other than Raekwon from hip-hop's Wu-Tang Clan.
3rd Rail has partnered with Slacker Radio to create a customized online radio station for the tour. The 3rd Rail Jam station is filled with original hip-hop, rock, funk, and soul music mastered by DJ Image. You can listen online.
