Diamond Peak Ski Resort is giving away beginner packages to learn to ski or snowboard. Winning one of the three packages takes a few words posted on the resort's blog.
Three learn to ski or snowboard packages are in the give away. Each package includes three group lessons, rental equipment for skiing or snowboarding, and a lift ticket appropriate for the participant's ability level. One package will be given away each week during the last three weeks in January.
The resort packaged together three lessons for the extra boost it will give the beginners. "The more experience you get, the better you'll get," Jon Tekulve, ski and snowboard school supervisor, told OnTheSnow. "With your first lesson, you're just getting oriented with stopping and riding the chairlift. With the second and third lesson, we'll build from that in a safe way, so you can do more of the mountain."
Those who want to try to get one of the beginner give away packages need to enter by posting a brief comment on the resort's blog. The comment should address why you want to win the beginner package. One winner will be chosen for each week, with winners announced on Sundays.
The first winner was announced Jan. 16. Two additional winners will be chosen each remaining Sunday in January.
First timers learn how to stop before they get on a lift. The resort offers two lifts for beginners who are learning to ski or snowboard. Tekulve explained that first timers use a slow-moving double chair before advancing to beginner slope serviced by a quad chair with a moving carpet to assist loading.
Diamond Peak also just offered a special Learn to Ski Week with a one-day beginner package costing $29. The package includes a group lesson, rentals, and a beginner lift ticket. Those who missed the January week can participate March 7-11. The package is available for anyone seven years old through adult.
The resort also offers beginner lessons daily. First timers and novices working on their second or third day can get a lesson, rentals, and lift ticket package for $69.
