Looking to ski Tahoe, but save on lodging? Try Sugar Bowl Resort's classic ski lodge. The resort's lodge chops its room rates in half midweek through March, and the location puts you about 20 yards from two lifts, making first tracks almost a guarantee.

"The lodge was built in the 1930s. It's the original lodge here," spokesperson Jennie Bartlett told us. "We've done renovations over the years, but throughout the lodge, rooms, and dining room, there are photos that show Sugar Bowl's history."

The snowbound lodge, which is located in the village, gives skiers and snowboarders the convenience of skier services and being adjacent to two lifts.

The Lodge at Sugar Bowl drops prices for its midweek special by 50 percent from its standard room rates. The discount is available for any Sunday through Thursday night stay, excluding holidays.

A couple can stay for less than $100 per night during the midweek special. Twin rooms on the north side, which sleep two people in two twin beds, cost $79 per night while Mountain View rooms furnished with one queen bed cost $99 per night. The midweek special rates on lofts, deluxe, and family rooms run $114-199 per night.

All rooms have private bathrooms, televisions with DVD players, coffee makers, and complimentary wireless Internet. Rooms facing the mountain have balconies.

Visitors to the Lodge at Sugar Bowl park at the indoor garage in the base area. Parking is included in the room rate. Access to the lodge is only via gondola, but it runs 24 hours per day. All gear, such as luggage, skis, and snowboards, is sent up on the gondola, too. The lodge will store luggage for those checking in before their room is ready and provides a place to change into ski gear to hit the slopes. Lift tickets are available at the lodge, too.

Rooms for the midweek special discount must be purchased online. The 50 percent discount on rooms is also available any day in April; however, minimum stays are required over weekends.
