Chocolate desserts? Yes. Chocolate truffles? Yes. Even chocolate drinks that imitate desserts. You just can't get too much of a good thing at The Chocolate Bar at Northstar-at-Tahoe. Drooling at the menu is only the start.

The Chocolate Bar, located in the Northstar Village across from Big Springs Express Gondola, serves small plates, lunch, dinner, desserts, and drinks, but it's main attraction is chocolate. White, milk, and dark chocolate made from Grand Cru chocolate from South American cocoa beans that are processed in Switzerland gets swirled into desserts, fondues, and truffles.

The dessert menu features chocolate treats, including ice cream, cookies, and the requisite lava cake dripping with hot fudge and chocolate mud pie. You can go classic with a chilled chocolate mouse with fresh raspberries, go down home with campfire s'mores, or go indecisive with a crème brulee sampler. Most of the desserts run $6-9.50, except for cookies, which are under $2. The Chocolate Bar also specializes in handmade truffles.

The specialty chocolate fondue comes for one, two, or four people: You choose the items for dipping. Traditional dippers include fresh fruits, but you can opt for more decadent dippers such as cookie dough, cheesecake, and cordials. The fondue with three dippers runs $8-22, but extra dippers can be added for additional cost.

Of course, hot chocolate is no plain affair. You can warm up with a thick, creamy $5 Mayan cocoa, dark, milk, or white chocolate, sans liqueur. But the specialty hot drinks soar chocolate into another world. The Sexy Snowman, priced at $30, blends hot dark chocolate with Frangelico, Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur, chocolate vodka, Bailey's, and Barcardi 151. (Try walking back to your condo after that one.)

Chocolate cocktails turn desserts into a libation with several reflecting the confections they imitate. You can indulge in a tiramisu, a white chocolate raspberry, or a turtle martini. Each of the drinks are mixed with a selection of liqueurs to mimic the taste of the dessert.

Dining at The Chocolate Bar is available inside or outside on the patio around the fire pit. The restaurant opens daily at 11:30 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
