It's hard to believe, but there still are Utahns out there who have never skied nor snowboarded, and Park City Mountain Resort wants to change that.

The StartNOW program runs all season long at the Wasatch Mountain resort but only for Utah residents who have never tried the sport. Proof of residency and $25 will get equipment rental, an afternoon lesson and a lift ticket. Up to five days can be included in the deal, each for $25.

Registration for the first session must be made at least five days in advance and online.  Participants should be at Park City Mountain Rentals in the lower level of the Legacy Lodge no later than noon on the day of a lesson, in order to have time to be fitted for equipment.

Children meet their instructors at the Kid's Korral, under the StartNOW banners, while adults gather at the Adult Ski and Snowboard school in the main Skiway. Lessons run from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants 17 or younger must wear a helmet; rental of helmets is available during equipment fitting. The first day's helmet rental is free; the next four days cost $8 each.

The program does not run Feb. 19-27 during the public school vacation week and must be started by March 27. Utah skiers and riders who complete the five days of lesson also get a deal on another five days. Adults pay $270 for five lift tickets. Teens up to 17 years old get the same deal for $175, while youngsters under 13 pay $125.
