Mount Snow in West Dover, Vt., is giving free Fanfare Cards to active American military personnel.
The Fanfare Cards yield 50 percent discounts on midweek ski lift tickets, 25 percent off weekend lift tickets, and 10 percent off holiday lift tickets.
Any active member of the U.S. military can get a card by showing his or her military ID at the season pass office in the Clocktower Building in the main base area.
Senior Chief Petty Officer Brian Nichols of the U.S. Coast Guard suggested the idea to Greg Fisher, Mount Snow marketing director.
"I received an email from Petty Officer Nichols and thought it would be a great way for us to thank those who put their lives on the line for us," Fisher said. " I passed the request on to our owner and he quickly approved it. We feel it's a small gesture of thanks that we can provide."
A visit to Mount Snow the Thursday of Christmas vacation week found superb conditions and lots of skiers and riders enjoying them.
The first two runs of the day were perfect, with only small lift lines awaiting at the base.
Many others joined the fun, and the lines swelled, as the morning wore on. The day was warm and sunny, however, so the wait was more of a social occasion than a trial of patience.
